'Is water baptism necessary?

Is baptism necessary? Baptism is enough if the Holy Spirit instructs a saved person to be baptized in water. Jesus Christ and his disciples were baptized in water. Cornelius the Gentile sent Peter and baptized him and his family with water according to a vision given by God. The thief on the cross repented and was saved but did not have the opportunity to be baptized in water. Water baptism is the New Testament commandment.
