Inspirational Thoughts for the New Year

A New Year represents new possibilities for all. Christians may wish to mark the new year by greater spirituality by a renewed commitment to Christ.
Christianity is about new beginnings. Christians believe that when a person gives his/her life to Christ, the believer gets a new lease on life according to the following words in Romans 6:4,
"We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life."

All Things Have Become New

As the old year is left behind, Christians can look forward to fresh opportunities to experience a higher level of spirituality by leaving old behaviours and habits behind, as the Scripture says in 2 Corinthians 5:17,"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!."

Old Ways Have Been Put To Death

The Bible speaks encouraging words to those who struggle to put their past sinful life behind them. Paul wrote to the Roman Christians in Romans 6:6," For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin."For Christians, Romans 6:6 offers affirmation that in Christ, the believer’s old way of living has been slain. Old habits and behaviours no longer have control and power over the believer whose life is submitted to their religion.

Freedom in Christ to Live a New Life for Him

Since the born-again Christian has been freed from the burden of the former sinful way of life, it's believed that he or she is free to live for Jesus as the Scriptures teach in Colossians 3: 1, 2, “ Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things."
Christians believe that they are called to focus their thoughts on Christ upon His throne and to give less thought to earthly things which will soon pass away.
Christians also believe that the Bible teachings will prepare believers for living in a glorious kingdom, as Colossians 3: 4 says,"When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory."  Though the “old man” has been crucified with Christ, notice the command in Colossians 3:5, “So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you.” (New Living Translation) Many Christians believe that they are called to actively fight against sin.

Service, the Christian's Greatest Joy

A Christian’s greatest joy may then be realized when he or she is enlisted in the service of God, as 2 Timothy 2:21 says," Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work. "

Surrender Yourself Totally To God's Control

When you surrender yourself to God's control, you relinquish or give up any power and yield yourself totally to the Almighty God. You also allow your desires and attitudes to be challenged, and over-ruled by God. Total surrendering is saying, "Yes Lord" to whatever He asks you to do.Surrendered people obey God, even when it does not make sense to them and other people around them. You will get fantastic results when you decide to surrender totally to God, for His glory. When you let go and let God, you know you are totally yielded to God.

GOOD SHEPHERD- JESUS CHRIST

                                                        PSALMS  23
King David, himself a former shepherd, begins this Psalm with, “The Lord is my shepherd,” immediately putting himself as a sheep in the care of Jesus Christ (who is the same being as the Lord of the Old Testament-see John 1:1-3, 14 and Heb. 1:2). This analogy of Christ as a shepherd and His chosen ones as sheep, is reinforced in several scriptures, especially in John 10, John 21:15-17and Hebrews 13:20. The shepherd is the provider and protector of his flock. The sheep are helpless without him. Similarly, human existence is but a sinful, carnal experience without God in our lives (John 5:30; Rom. 8:6-11).
Continuing with, “I shall not want,” David indicates here that as a sheep in Christ’s care, he was confident that he would lack nothing. This sentiment is repeated in Psalms 34:9-10, and clearly indicates David’s understanding in regards to putting God and God’s way first in his life (see Matthew 6:25-34). He goes on to write, “He makes me to lie down in green pastures: he leads me beside the still waters.” Both the “green pastures” and “still waters” indicate a blessed abundance, further illustrating the benefits of a God-led life.
Psalm 23:3 begins, “He restores my soul.” David understood that he was a sinner, but also that Christ had redeemed him and would continue to restore him upon repentance. Psalm 51is a good example showing David’s understanding of repentance and forgiveness.

From personal experience, David knew that occasionally the shepherd had to lead his flock through treacherous terrain, and so he writes (as the sheep), “Yes, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff they comfort me.” Again, David had complete trust and confidence in God and His way—He had no fear, even in the “shadow of death.” The rod and staff are the shepherd’s tools, and are used to guide and correct the path of the sheep—much in the same way God has to oftentimes guide, and occasionally correct, our path. This comforted David. Paul indicates in II Timothy 1:7 that this mindset comes only from God: “For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
Even among enemies, David had complete confidence: “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies: You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over.” He understood the promises of blessings and protections (Eph. 3:20; Luke 11:9-13; compare though with James 4:1-3).
In conclusion, David knew that as long as he would follow Christ, “…goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.” He looked forward to reigning (again as King of Israel; see Ezek. 34:23-24) in the kingdom of God: “and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.”

LOVE

1If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.

4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. 11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. 12Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Jesus speaks to God the Father on our behalf

Some people may think that sin is a normal part of the Christian life. They agree that we will continue to sin. They may even think that it does not matter. God will forgive us when we sin. But sin does matter. Christians ought not to continue to sin. They should not sin. Sin is an enemy that will move us from the light. (That is, it will move us away from everything that is good, holy, and right.) Sin will get between God and us. It spoils the joy that Christians should share.

John writes as a father. He writes to his children whom he loves. He tells them that they should not sin. He wrote the letter to help them not to sin.

We should not sin but we are human and weak. If we sin, we have to confess it to God. We must decide that we will not do that sin again. If possible we should put right what we have done wrong. And we must ask the Lord to forgive us our sin.

If anyone does sin, God has the remedy for it. Someone is ready to help us. He comes to our rescue. This person is able to speak to God the Father. He is the agent for the person who sinned. Jesus Christ is this person. He has never sinned. He has always done what was right. He is the perfect man and he is God the Son. He understands us and he is God. So, he can speak with God the Father. He can ask God to forgive our sins.

READING OF GOD'S WORD

Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts. But ye said, Wherein shall we return?-Malachi 3:7..
THOUGHTS ON THE VERSE:In times of horror and disaster, people routinely ask, "Where is God in all of this?" Yet we so often leave God at the periphery of our lives and look for him only when we are desperate and have no other options. When things are going well, we seldom say, "Where is God in all of this? Why, he's right here blessing us! Let's praise him for his goodness!" God pleads with us to turn to him and seek after him, in good times and in bad. Not only will we find him; he will return to us and walk with us. MY PRAYER:Father, I confess that I have let my relationship with you slip and that I have not pursued your presence in my life as much as I could. Please be with me and all your Church as we seek you and your presence daily in our lives! In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Ready or Not-Here He comes in a blink of an Eye!

John 14:1-4 - “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”
